Student Intern

Picture

As a student mental health counseling intern, my focus and view are holistic in nature. I seek to
work collaboratively as we gain insight into the various and complex facets that may have
become stumbling blocks in your path and are thwarting you now. Understanding human
behavior from a holistic lens involves understanding the relationship between family,
friendships, intimate partnerships, work life, physical and emotional health, community and
spirituality, and ways in which you thrive.

I have spent 20 years working in the health care field in a variety of roles. I bring to the
counseling field a plethora of experience and skills as a First Responder, counseling in
community clinics and juvenile centers, rehabilitation with patients with traumatic brain injuries,
facilitating mental health groups in psychiatric units, and working as a nutritional, lifestyle, and
fitness coach in both clinical and private practice.

I have formal training in individual, couples, family, and group counseling from Liberty
University where I am earning a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently
training in a Child-Centered Play Therapy approach, using various types of play and expressive
therapies that are tailored individually to each child. I am also a Certified Trauma Professional to
work with a variety of situations to help children and families manage prior and current trauma. I
also enjoy working with couples as a certified Symbis assessment facilitator, counseling pre-
marital and married couples.

I believe in counseling from an integrative approach, implementing a combination of trauma
informed care, cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches, strength-based interventions, expressive
arts, narrative therapy and existential or meaning-making psychology. As a military veteran, I am
honored to continue working with and serving military members and their families and further
developing my training in trauma interventions unique to military experience and demands.
I have been traveling to Montana for vacation for over 20 years and finally made it home a
couple years ago. I am originally from Utah, but have lived all over the country from one coast to
another. On my down time, I can be found in various fitness endeavors, enjoying nature, playing
guitar, photography, and most recently training pack goats for therapy backpacking excursions.
